What does backup readiness mean?
A backup-ready zone has more than one authoritative path to users: multiple nameservers, independent network or provider exposure where possible, responding authoritative servers, matching SOA serials, and DNSSEC state that will not break validation during a secondary DNS rollout.
Is one DNS provider always bad?
No. A strong anycast provider can be operationally sound. Provider diversity matters when the domain is business-critical and needs to survive account lockouts, provider control-plane incidents, or an authoritative platform outage.
Why do SOA serials matter?
If authoritative nameservers return different SOA serials, they may be serving different zone versions. That is exactly the kind of drift that causes partial outages during DNS migrations and secondary DNS setups.
