DNScale DNS Control is now in beta

DNScale DNS Control is now available in beta.

It gives teams a read-only way to connect external authoritative DNS providers, track provider inventory, capture DNS state snapshots, and compare drift before migration work, incident review, cleanup, or client handoff.

Why this exists

DNS work often starts with uncertainty.

A team inherits a customer zone. A migration is planned from one provider to another. A cleanup project needs to know which records are real, stale, or provider-specific. An incident review needs evidence of what DNS looked like before and after the event.

Provider consoles can show current state, but they are not always good at showing repeatable history, portable DNS shape, or the difference between DNS records and provider-only metadata.

DNScale DNS Control is built for that operational gap.

What the beta includes

The beta focuses on read-only workflows:

• Provider catalog discovery.
• Read-only provider connections.
• External zone inventory.
• Immutable DNS state snapshots.
• Snapshot diffs for portable DNS and provider metadata changes.
• Dashboard and API access.

The current API surface lives under /v1/dns-sources and /v1/dns-inventory. The public reference is available at DNScale DNS Control API.

What is out of scope in beta

DNScale DNS Control is read-only toward external DNS providers during beta. It can discover zones, store inventory, capture snapshots, and compare state, but it does not apply record changes back to those providers.

Snapshots are also not a failover mechanism. They are records of DNS state for review, migration planning, incident analysis, and handoff work. Authoritative serving, secondary DNS, and live failover remain separate DNS hosting concerns.

This keeps the beta focused on visibility and review before change execution.

Where it fits

DNScale DNS Control is useful when you need to:

• Audit inherited authoritative DNS zones before taking ownership.
• Compare provider state before a registrar, DNSSEC, or nameserver migration.
• Preserve evidence of DNS state during incident response.
• Separate portable DNS records from provider-specific behavior.
• Prepare reviewed DNS state before moving zones into DNScale authoritative hosting.

Dashboard and API

The dashboard now includes a DNS Control section for eligible accounts. It shows provider connections, tracked inventory, snapshots, and drift review in one place.

For automation, the API exposes the same model:

Start with the provider catalog, create a read-only connection, save inventory, capture snapshots, then compare snapshots when you need to review drift.

Availability

DNScale DNS Control is available as a beta feature for selected accounts.

If the feature is enabled on your account, open the dashboard and select DNS Control. If not, contact support or use the product page to request access.
